Obituary

Jean Ravenscroft McMinimy passed from this life, to be with the One who sees every sparrow fall, on Saturday, January 11, 2014, with her family by her side. Jean was born February 22, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her mother, Winona M. Bernhardt Ravenscroft; father, Estill Phillip "Jack" Ravenscroft; her sister, Estella "Minnie" Clay; and her brothers, Estill Phillip "Jack" Ravenscroft, Jr., and Jimmie Ravenscroft; and first husband, George Edward Smith, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Stewart F. McMinimy; her son, George Edward Smith, III; her daughters, Christina Lee Smith Deal, Kathryn Jean Smith Patton and Cheri Marlaine Smith Whitnah; her step-children, Karolene Elizabeth "Beth" McMinimy Hanna and Stewart Alan McMinimy; her grandchildren, Kathryn Marie Deal Schwartz, Michelle Jan "Abby" McLaughlin, Christopher D. Deal, Tiffany Christian Patton Gresham, Heather Rozanne Patton Parker, Amanda Racheal Patton Conway, John Wesley Patton, Rebecca Rae Smith Perkins, Alexandra Rene Smith, Rachel Lauren Whitnah and Cecilee Grace Whitnah; along with 23 great-grandchildren. Jean spent many years working on the Mercury and Gemini space programs, before accepting a position with the McDonnel-Douglas Advanced Design Program. She was a life-long supporter of all the good, which came from the space programs. She married Stewart McMinimy on November 21, 1981, and together they owned and partnered in their successful structural engineering firm, for over 25 years. She was one of the first women ever to be admitted to the Rolla Schools of Mines & Metallurgy, now known as the Missouri University of Science and Technology. One of her proudest accomplishments was to graduate the University of Central Oklahoma in 2000, Summa Cum Laude. Jean loved theater, ballet, opera, and many other arts. She was a published poet and writer, artist, loved cats and could never refuse a stray, loved her family and was happiest with a cup of tea, poured from one of her many, beautiful tea sets. Viewing will be Thursday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be held Friday, January 17, 2014, 10:30am, at Mercer Adams Chapel, 3925 N Asbury Ave, Bethany, OK 73008 with interment in Fairlawn Cemetery.
