Obituary

Jean Marie (Waldrop) Boozer Martindale was born to Luke and Ina Waldrop of Warr Acres, OK on March 6, 1951 and died on March 10, 2024 in her home built on the family land. She graduated from Putnam City High School (Original) in 1969 and obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and dual master's degrees in Reading and Early Childhood Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught for 20 years in the Putnam City school district starting in third grade at Central Elementary School, the same school she attended as a third-grade student.

Jean truly lived. She was an active member of Church of the Savior in Warr Acres, serving on multiple boards and commissions. She spent many volunteer hours at school, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Putnam City Alumni Association, and other organizations. She was the "recycle queen," making the world a cleaner place one aluminum can at a time, even when it wasn't her trash. Jean learned how to fly small airplanes and earned her private pilot's license in 1986; was a certified scuba diver, making dives in Mexico, the Galapagos, and offshore Belize; was treasurer during the early years of Martindale Consultants, Inc., overseeing the payables functions including reviewing her husband's expense reports. Jean accompanied her husband to the bi-annual meetings of the Council of Petroleum Accountants where she was a well-recognized participant in the social events.

With her husband and family or friends, Jean traveled the world, visited all seven continents, and never met a stranger. She went ski-diving at age 61 and enjoyed sailing, skiing, fishing, and backpacking. On one back-country trip, she broke her leg, then hiked four miles on it (unaware it was broken) before her family found some horsemen to take her out the remaining 16 miles. Jean attended activities at local senior citizen centers with a special affinity for assisting older seniors and was a Red Hat club member. But her favorite thing was attending her grandchildren's events and watching them learn and grow.

Jean is survived by her three children, Steven Boozer Martindale and wife Amy, Amanda Jean Martindale, and Jonathan Ryan Martindale; her grandchildren, Ryan Patrick Martindale and Alexis Marie Fruga; her husband of 47 years, W. Patrick Martindale; and brother and sister-in-law David and Jan Waldrop; brother- and sisters-in-law Dean and Pam Martindale, Roy and Sandra Martindale, and Nicki Price. Also, cousins, Frank and Amy Jones of Wheatland, Wyoming; Nan and Mick Sweetman of Denver, Colorado; nieces and nephews Eric and Kristen Jones, Courtney and Garin Shrieve, Sarah Craven, Kirsten and Brent Handler, Carla Kenny, Jason Rogers, Josh Rogers, Becky Blaha, Terry Martindale, April Martindale and husband Byron Boyd, Sam Martindale, Sarah Martindale, Dylan Martindale, and Christy and Tim Kiene; as well as grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Luke and Ina Waldrop, Gary M. Boozer, and cousins Steve and Beth Craven. Also, brothers-in-law Lancy Price and Joe Martindale; sister-in-law Chris Gunder; and niece and nephew, Stephanie Merriam and Justin Rogers.

A celebration of Jean's life will take place at 3:30 pm Saturday, March 30, at Church of the Savior, 5600 NW 63rd in Warr Acres, Oklahoma, followed by a wake at the Martindale house. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Church of the Savior and will be directed by the family to local charities that provide assistance to struggling students, in honor of Jean's dedication as a teacher and mentor.
