Our loving Daddy and friend passed from this earth into the arms of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ at 7:25 p.m. on the 24th of January, 2011. J.D. was born December 13, 1942 to Charley and Opal Johnston. In 1961 he married his childhood sweetheart and to this union was born two children, Todd and Lisa. In 1980 he married Pam Clanahan. They were together until her death in November of 2009. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Charley & Opal Johnston, wife, Pam Johnston, two brothers, Charley Johnston Jr. and Jack Johnston, and his great-granddaughter, Jaydlyn Hilgenberg. He is survived by two devoted children who loved and adored him dearly, Todd Johnston of Hominy, Oklahoma and Lisa Johnston of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Justin Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Jessica Hilgenberg & husband Dan, Wesley Johnston & wife Savannah, and Kyle Johnston; four great-grandchildren, Braxtan, Christopher, Raegen & Maisen, all of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by two brothers, Bill Johnston and Sonny Johnston; two sisters, Lulla Schrader and Shirley Spencer, all of Bethany, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Maytubby of Oklahoma City and Niles Maytubby of Kingston, Oklahoma; two step-children, Ty Clanahan and Breck Ferrell of Oklahoma City; and J.D.'s very dear friend, Kris Jacobs, who was like a son to him. The family wants to give special thanks to J.D.'s longtime friend and caregiver, Sandy Wood. She is and will always be a part of our family. We love and thank her so very much! J.D.'s life was filled with several accomplishments, including being a dedicated police officer for Bethany and Oklahoma City Police departments where he also served as a motorcycle patrolman, Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, and Chief of Putnam City Police Department. After retirement, he went into the oilfield industry. He owned and operated Johnston Oilfield Equipment for 27 years. J.D. took great pride and pleasure while serving the citizens of the City of Bethany as a Council Member and Mayor for ten years. J.D. was a loving and loyal son, husband, Daddy, brother and friend to all who knew him. He will be missed beyond words, but never forgotten. Services will be held at Council Road Baptist Church on Friday, January 28th at 2:00 p.m. with interment following in Bethany Cemetery.
