Jarrel Lyon was born in Alva, OK to John William and Thelma Mae (McWilliams) Lyon. He grew up in Alva and graduated from Alva High School in 1954. While in high school, he played many sports and lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He was a phenomenal athlete. After high school, Jerry attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University for 2 years and then finished with his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering at Oklahoma State University. Following that, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for 2 years. Upon completing his service to our country, he began his engineering career and worked for AT&T for over 30 years.
Jerry loved playing golf with his son, grandsons and many friends through the years. He also looked forward to his weekly tee times with his beloved friends, "The FOOLS," (the Fraternal Order of Linksmen). He was very proud of his 3 holes in one. Jerry was an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He loved God and his family as much as he loved OSU!
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dot; daughter, Lory Stroud of Chandler, AZ; son, Brent Lyon and wife Donna, of Yukon, OK; 3 granddaughters; 4 grandsons; 4 great-grandchildren; and his only surviving brother, Gene Lyon of Bethany, OK.
