Janis Kay Bynum, 74, died March 18, 2023 in Oklahoma City. She was born June 19, 1948 to Roy and Chloetta (Clifft) Bynum in Hollis, OK. Jan graduated in 1966 from Bethany High School where she was a cheerleader and was honored to be chosen as All-School Queen. She was also winner of the Betty Crocker award.
Following high school, she attended Oklahoma School of Banking and Business. She attended Oscar Rose Junior College in Midwest City, where she began working on her social work degree. She later transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where she completed her bachelors in social work as well as her masters.
By 1980, or near that time, she was employed at Childrens Hospital in the emergency room as a social / intake worker. She worked there for a few years before becoming a full-fledged social worker for the department of human services where she ultimately worked her way up to Assistant County Director for Oklahoma County Child Welfare.
Jan loved OU football and traveling. She went on many trips with her traveling companions, Lynda and Joanne, and there are more than we can begin to count. Colorado was one of her favorite places but she was always ready to go just about anywhere.
Jan is survived by her sisters, Alveta Garrett and husband Rendall of Bethany, and Rhonda Bowers and husband Larry of El Reno; nephews, Steve, Scott, Ryan, Aaron, Kevin, Keenan, and Brandon.
