Obituary

Janice Bourns, 79, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in Bethany, Oklahoma. Janice, a resident of Bethany, was born in Oklahoma City on October 8, 1939 to Sam B Morgan and Earlene Pine Morgan. She attended Choctaw schools and earned an Associate of Science degree from Southwestern College in Oklahoma City. She had a thirst for knowledge and continued her learning by attending many continuing education classes at the University of Oklahoma. Janice worked as Convention Services Coordinator for the Oklahoma City Convention and Tourism Bureau. She had a passion to serve others and volunteered significant time to Goodland Family Services Childrens Home and Family Service Agency, HOPE in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Alzheimers Association and various hospice organizations. She was a certified nursing home ombudsman. Janice was fascinated with other cultures and travelled extensively, making many friends along the way. Some of the places she travelled include Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Poland, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Finland, Norway and Russia. Her hobbies included photography and needlework, and she won county and state fair awards in both. She loved the arts, especially theatre. She researched her family history in depth. Janice was proud to be a fourth-generation Oklahoman and proud of her familys participation in the land run. Janice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don Bourns, Bethany; daughters, Donita Bourns Douglas, Oklahoma City, and Dana Bourns Proctor, Bethany; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Proctor Christensen (Adam), Oklahoma City; Jeff Proctor, Glenpool; Andrew Douglas, Austin, Texas; Benjamin Douglas, Oklahoma City, and Collin Douglas (Jessica), Oklahoma City; two great grandchildren, Preston Proctor and Carson Proctor, Glenpool. She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Jeff Proctor. Janice was the heart of her family. As Matriarch, she celebrated family with love for all, including all family pets. She did everything with enthusiasm and never met a stranger. The family thanks the staff of Brookdale Bethany and Physicians Choice Hospice for the loving care provided Janice. Visitation is Monday, January 21, 9 am until 9 pm. Services are Tuesday, January 22, at 10 am at Mercer Adams Funeral Home in Bethany, with burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Wheatland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinsons Foundation of Oklahoma.
