She was born August 15th, 1939 in Wichita Falls, Texas, the only daughter of JD and Margaret Sitton. Jan was a loving Mother to three (3) children, Daryl Johnson and wife Barbara of OKC, Carrie Pennington of OKC, and Christopher Johnson and wife Doris of Woodstown NJ; Grandmama to grandchildren, Cory Poteet of OKC, Christine Poteet of OKC, Alana Johnson of Woodstown NJ, Danielle Lucchesi of Royersford PA and Erica Lucchesi of Des Moines IA. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 54 years, Dale Ward Johnson, both of her parents, by her brother, James Duane Sitton Jr., and her grandson, Vaughn Johnson. Jan grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas and attended Stephen Austin High School, where she was a baton twirling majorette. Her best friend growing up was Janice Brown, and although Janice lives in Amarillo TX, they have remained best friends until this very day. Prior to a lengthy career as a housewife and mother to three incredibly challenging children, Jan worked in multiple office management roles, including at the FAA in OKC. She had several hobbies over the years, including regular participation in bridge clubs, scrap booking, oil painting, and playing tennis, for which she remained an avid fan in her later years (go Nadal). She also tracked down and documented the entire genealogy of her family, which provided all of us some interesting discussions. In the last several years of her life she became a computer game aficionado and would spend hours and hours playing; she was ahead of her time. She loved her church, St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bethany, OK, and all her friends and family there. She was a member for over 53 years. She participated in the walk to Emmaus, helped with the young married class, and attended the New Life Class for decades. A graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 8701 N.W. Expressway in OKC on February 26th at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in her name to "St. Marks UMC Mission Fund" and sent to the church at 8140 N.W. 36th St., Bethany, OK 73008. MEMORIES: My last conversation with Mom was on Thursday during our recent winter deep freeze. We both commented on how crazy this world has become. I told her I probably have another 30 years on this earth and I said Im not sure I want to be here that long. I told her I was going to start eating more chocolate, smoking and drink more to shorten that timeline. She laughed and said, "that hasnt worked for me!" She had a great sense of humor, was always positive, regardless of her pain and physical limitations. She loved the Lord and her family. I will miss you Mom and I love you. After I was told about my mother passing, I drove to her house. I was waiting at the turn signal to go down the street into her addition. As I sat there, 2 helium balloons in the shape of stars, one pink and one blue floated over the back of my truck and up into the sky. I felt like this was a sign that they are both free from these burdensome bodies, free to fly and that Dad (the blue balloon) had come to escort Mom (the pink balloon) up to heaven. I believe it was God's way of comforting me. And it was comforting. Be free to fly and someday I will see you again. I love you both! Carrie (Daughter) Grandmama, Thank you for welcoming me into your family with open arms and for always showering me with endless kindness and love. From the moment we met, you made me feel as though we had known each other forever. Your calm demeanor was always so comforting to me, and it never failed to make me feel peaceful and at ease. Though our visits together were few, due to the many miles between us, I greatly looked forward to my phone conversations with you and Granddaddy. I will never forget the time we spent together at my Mom and Chris wedding, and during my trip to Oklahoma in the fall. Your pride and positivity were palpable and treasured. I know you are resting peacefully now with Granddaddy by your side, in a place far greater than this world. May angels lead you in. Love always, Danielle (Granddaughter) Grandmama was always such a nice lady, she never forgot a birthday and always checked in to see what was going on in our daily lives. She was so sweet and so very caring, she will be missed by many. I love you Grandmama, Rest in Peace. Erica (Granddaughter) My favorite memories of Mom came from staying with her for 5 weeks after Granddaddy passed away. We had so many conversations and sometimes we laughed until we cried. I took her to Costco one day, and little did I know the 3 hr. adventure that awaited me. When we arrived she proudly got on a scooter and away she went. I think she sampled every snack they were offering in the store, in fact she loved them so much the grocery bill when we checked out was four figures! A couple of funny stories worth sharing. During my stay she had bought a smart phone, always having had a flip phone before then. While we were out eating lunch she had a question we couldnt answer, so she held the phone up in front of her face and loudly stated, "Hey Google", repeatedly, fully believing her phone was going to speak back to her. She wanted to be one of the cool kids, it was a classic, and now anytime Chris and I are together and need to look something up via our phones, we start out telling the phone, "Hey Google". Mom loved and protected my husband, her son, like no Mom ever, and this is a story that proves it. I had a friend named Jeff that Chris and I would support by doing a cancer walk each year with him, unfortunately he ended up passing away several years back. Each year on Jeffs birthday I replace my usual Facebook profile picture with one of he and I arm in arm at one of the cancer walks. Each year when I posted the picture change a Facebook comment from Grandmomma would pop up and ask me, "who is that man you are with in the picture, he isnt my son!". Each year I would have to call her and reassure her I wasnt running around on her son, explaining why I posted it and that Jeff was friends with both Chris and I. This occurred every year for four or five years and Chris and I would look forward to Mom posting her comment, demanding to know who that man I was, because it wasnt her son. What a hoot. Mom, I will think of you every time I see chocolate milk. I love you and appreciate the love you extended to me over the last 15 years, I hit the jackpot having you and Dad as in-laws. Love, Doris (Daughter-in-law) Memories of Grandmomma will always be special to me. When I stayed at her house she would wake me up by singing, "The Red Red Robin goes Bob-Bob-Bobin along, along.", it was always the best way to wake up. I still love wintergreen mints, because she used to give them to me as treats. Her perfume is a favorite memory, being a small child at church and falling asleep in her arms during the service, all the while smelling her rose like fragrance. I love you Grandmomma. Ali (Granddaughter) Mom You taught me so many important things and I love you for every lesson. You provided me a wonderful perspective on life, just roll with it. You showed me the importance of laughing at ourselves, as we all make funny mistakes, mispronounce things, and occasionally just make ourselves look like goofballs. You would tell me its ok, we are just human, have a good laugh over those things and move on. You taught me not to take myself to seriously and Im a much happier person for having learned that from you. You showed me the importance of loyalty, as you were fiercely loyal. You taught me there is never a wrong time to do the right thing. You showed me that its ok to admit when you make a mistake, if you dont you are not being honest with yourself, because everyone makes mistakes. You taught me to be a good person, and shaped who I am today. I wouldnt be me without you. I will always love and Ill miss you, until I meet up with you, Dad and Vaughn when my time comes. Chris (Son) Who was Mom She was the yellow rose of Texas, tall and strong, a good and nurturing mother of three. She would whistle from the front porch (amazingly loudly) to call us kids home for a home cooked meal each evening. She always listened to and supported us kids. In the end she was surrounded by loving children and was very happy and thankful. I love you Mom! Daryl (Son) Grandmama I'm going to miss your smile, hugs and kisses, and you telling me you were proud of me all the time. I'm going to miss you and Granddaddy going back and forth messing with each other the way that only people who've been married for 50+ years can do. That was hilarious. I'll miss your loving spirit, your grateful attitude, and your gentle wisdom. I had a lot of fun with you when I'd come stay with you and Granddaddy in Amarillo when I was young. I'm glad we got to spend so much time together doing birthdays and holidays and watching football games and while I was working at your house. Thank you for being so good to me. I love you. Cory Grandmama was such a kind and gentle person. I always looked forward to her big, warm smile and tender hugs every time I saw her. I remember summer adventures with she and Grandaddy in Amarillo as a kid, playing in the hot tub, and sharing warm conversations at family gatherings. She always expressed genuine interest in my school and work and wanted to know that I was doing well. She made a point to celebrate everyone's accomplishments or to lovingly encourage and bolster each of us when we struggled. She had a great sense of humor and often surprised me with a hilariously unexpected comment or a funny observation. She was a very faithful and devout and made an effort to be a good example for others, especially her kids and grandkids. I love her so much and will dearly miss her warmth and love. Christine (granddaughter) We would like to share a sweet note from Pastor Keith Cressman to Jan, dated Feb 8th, 2021 Hello Jan, You and your family are in my prayers. This has been a challenging year for all of us and at times it is as if I could hear you saying "weve just got to trust Jesus and it will all work out somehow!" Thank you for that "voice memory" of encouragement. Speaking of memories I recently read a portion of "Mostly The Truth" (written by Dale Johnson), once again it is full of fun escapades. This time I read of a treehouse not far from a creek and an underground shelter. Dale sure could tell a tale! Mostly, Im just thinking of you and wanted to send a hello. I hope you are staying encouraged and experiencing the sweet presence of His Holy Spirit. Perhaps the time we worship together is sooner rather than later. I appreciate and value you. With love in Christ, Pastor Keith . Private Services Private family only
