Obituary

James David Wright was born April 14, 1950 to Jack and Lola (Christians) Wright in Spartanburg, SC. He departed this life on October 27, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK surrounded by his family. Due to his fathers work, the family moved often, and he attended several schools. In high school, he played football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated as Salutatorian from Stratford High School in Stratford, OK in 1968. He served in the Army Reserves. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1974 with a bachelors degree in education. Also, in 1974, he married Donna Pester. To this union, one daughter, Jaime, was born. He taught math and coached basketball, baseball, and eventually softball at numerous schools in Oklahoma before retiring in 2002. He moved to Texas where he taught and coached at two more schools before his health failed. He eventually moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to Jaime and her family. He had a good work ethic. Because teachers didnt make a lot of money, he worked an extra job every summer to help support his family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching his grandsons in their activities. He loved watching sports, mainly football, basketball, baseball, and softball. His favorite teams were the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the New York Yankees. As a child, he collected baseball cards and memorized stat after stat. Truth be told, he never stopped collecting baseball cards. He is survived by his daughter, Jaime Wright, and grandsons, Zack and Seth of Bethany, OK; one sister, Judy Byford (and husband Roy) of Stratford, OK; two brothers, John Wright (and wife Brenda) of Enid, OK and Jack Wright Jr. (and wife Jana) of Sallisaw, OK. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
