James Allen Vineyard was born on May 19, 1940, in Gray County, Texas, to Gordon F. and Onie Mae Vineyard. As a young man, he worked for a gas station and a funeral home in McLean, Texas. He served our country as a sergeant in the United States Army, Special Forces, as an intelligence officer, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His duties took him to diverse lands such as Laos, the Philippines, East Germany, and the former Soviet Union.Soon after Jim married JoAnn, she trusted the Lord to be her Savior. Her life manifested such a difference that eventually he had to acknowledge that she had something he didnt, something substantial and life-giving. The greatest day of his life, he would say, was when he trusted Jesus Christ to be his personal Savior in a motel room in Moline, Illinois, on September 17, 1964. A fire was lit in his heart to reach anyone and everyone he could with the Gospel of Christ; he wanted to personally introduce them to his Savior. He attended Ford Porters Indiana Baptist College before serving two years as an associate pastor to Dr. John Rawlings, Landmark Baptist Temple, Cincinnati, Ohio. He then spent two years as an associate pastor to Dr. Jerry Falwell, Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia. From there, he moved to Hammond, Indiana, and served as an associate pastor to Dr. Jack Hyles, Pastor of First Baptist Church. In each of those churches, he was put in charge over the Bus Ministry, building them up greatly, teaching workers to use object lessons and to preach on the buses while commuting between homes and the church. His influence began spreading, and in the mid-1970s, he helped build Sunday Schools and Bus ministries all over the nation, conducting many Bus Ministry conferences and helping churches reach children with the Gospel of Christ.During his four and one-half years at Hammond, Indiana, Brother Vineyard was Vice-President of Evangelism at Hyles-Anderson College. He preached the "B" Junior Church to over 2500 children per week. He preached in over 120 conferences per year throughout America and Canada. On May 16, 1976, the Bus ministry had a high attendance day of 26,706 on 438 buses. Dr. Jack Hyles said that Jim Vineyard was one of the hardest working men he had ever known. An honorary Doctor of Humanities degree was conferred upon Bro. Vineyard in May 1973.In March 1977, Windsor Hills Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, called Dr. Vineyard to be their pastor. Upon arrival, he began training workers to carry out a Bus ministry, which continues to this day. Oklahoma Baptist Institute, which had been started in 1972 but was struggling, had new life breathed into it. It came to flourish and thrive as Oklahoma Baptist College and Institute, and became well known for training servant-hearted missionaries, preachers, teachers, and secretaries to carry the Gospel into all the world.Windsor Hills Baptist Schools was established in August 1978, a ministry to reach the Deaf in 1979, and a ministry to Spanish-speaking peoples in 1980.Preachers former experiences as a soldier touched his heart to win the peoples of the former Soviet Union, when the Iron Curtain fell in 1991. Quickly, he worked to develop teams who would travel to Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine to deliver humanitarian aid and to spread the gospel through preaching and tract distribution. As a result of those trips, many mission works were established and the Gospel began to be preached where it had been forbidden for 70 years. To aid in the distributions and to raise awareness of the spiritual and physical needs of the Russian people, the Russian Fundamental Baptist Mission (RFBM) and newspaper were begun. As more needs worldwide were brought to lightunreached peoples in the Amazon River Basin, Mexico, and other placesthe paper took on a more global flavor and the name changed to Fundamental Baptist World Mission (FBWM). Many Bibles, New Testaments, and John and Romans booklets have been distributed through FBWM.For most of his Christian life, and as pastor of WHBC, Dr. Vineyard traveled and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the nation and around the world.Stepping down from the pastorate, Dr. Vineyards ministry took a new direction to work with Jewish people, providing humanitarian aid and teaching them about their and our Messiah. He was generous to a fault, a staunch defender of sound Bible doctrine and righteousness, a fearless leader, a voracious reader, an admonisher, an encourager, a faithful pastor, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and, above all, a soul-winner. In the last week of his life, Brother Vineyard shared the gospel with a nurse who was taking care of him in the hospital, and won her to the Lord.Dr. Jim Vineyard went Home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 21, 2017.He is survived by his wife JoAnn, his three sonsJohn and his wife Dawn, Tom and his wife Melissa, and Paul and his wife Tess; and eleven grandchildren. The Home-going service for Dr. Jim Vineyard will be Friday, October 27, 1:00 p.m., at Windsor Hills Baptist Church, 5517 NW 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK.
