Obituary

Day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky; all is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, may the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, safe in sleep. After a life well lived, James Robert Pitt went to his heavenly reward and to be reunited with loved ones on Friday, May 8, 2015. Jim celebrated his 94th birthday just days before his passing with a birthday party. He was so happy to spend that weekend with his most prized possessions which were his daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and "adopted" family and friends at Bellevue Nursing Center. Jim was born on May 4, 1921, to George Milton and Effie Irene Pitt in Dallas, Texas. He was raised by his step-father, Henry Farrell, who he considered his dad. At age 17, Jim met the love of his life, Dorothy Jeanne Hoover, at Kotche's Dance Studio in Oklahoma City. Jeanne loved to tell the story of Jim looking down the line of girls to position himself so they would be dance partners. They were married on January 24, 1944 in Oakland, CA, while Jim served in WWII aboard the USS Copahee. Jeanne took a 2 day train ride to Oakland so they could marry during his leave. They were happily married for 67 years until Jeanne's passing in 2011. Upon returning from WWII, Jim was employed as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1981. Jim was preceded in death by his father, step-father and mother; sisters, Lola Lee Pitt and Dorothy Farrell; brother, Alvin Farrell; infant son, Steven Randall; and daughter, Janice Taylor. He is survived by daughters and spouses, Suzanne & Keith Watson, Michelle & Ron Jameson; son-in-law, Larry Taylor; grandchildren, John and Joanna Taylor, Shannon (Ryan) Medley, Brian (Amber) Watson, Lindsey (Chad) Buchanan, Brett (Beccah) Watson; great-grandchildren, Mack and Mayes Medley, Connor, Caleb and Chloe Watson, Braxton and Ryder Buchanan, Keevah Watson; nieces, Sharon Fisher, Linda and Kay Farrell; and nephew, Dane Lesser. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Bellevue Health & Rehab and Centennial Hospice. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Piedmont, Oklahoma where services will be held Thursday, May 14th at 2:00 p.m., with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Funeral Service Thursday, May 14, 2015 02:00 PM First Baptist Church of Piedmont 15 Jackson Ave NW Piedmont, OK 73078
