On Friday, December 11, 2020, James Robert Ogden Jr. went to be with Jesus.
Born in Denver, Colorado on September 28th of 1925, Bob was the first son of Helen and James Robert Ogden, Sr. with siblings Phyllis, Dan, and Mary to follow. With the coming of WWII, many young men were eager to enlist and Bob was not to be left behind. At the age of 17, Bob joined the navy hoping to become a cook. He was instead posted to a destroyer escort, the U.S.S. McNulty, as a radioman first class and was later promoted to radioman second class. During his tour of service, Bobs ship sailed to the Mediterranean, dodging German U-boats, then made the long journey through the Panama Canal to the South Pacific. After the war ended, Bob returned home.
In 1948 Bob married Dorothy May Schmidt. Their marriage lasted 65 years until her death in 2014 and stood as the bedrock of their family. Together they had two sons, Bobby and Mark. Bobs career with Southwestern Bell led them to Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, and finally retirement in Kansas. In each of these locations, Bob and his family were deeply involved in their local church and served the Lord wherever they were needed.
In his later years, Bob enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling, doing puzzles, gardening, and operating his ham radio. He also cherished time spent with his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and is survived by his sons, Bob and wife Karla, and Mark and partner Anita; grandchildren, Amanda Jensen, Angela DeLong, and Tessa Phillips; great-grandchildren, Anna, Jessica, Alli, and William Jensen, Nora and Asher DeLong, and Ella and Daphne Phillips; and siblings, Phyllis Haviland, Dan Ogden, and Mary Gibson.
The memorial service will be postponed until further notice.
