Obituary

James "Jim" Matthew Morgan was born April 2, 1955 in Lawton, OK to E.C. Morgan and Marilee Jean Seaman. He attended Lawton schools. He participated in track and attended diesel mechanic training. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1973. Following graduation, he met his soulmate, Deborah (Debbie) Hester, and they were married August 31, 1973. He worked various jobs in the Lawton area and entered the Air Force in May, 1974. It was in Basic Training that he began being called "Jim" rather than "Matt" as he had been called for the previous 19 years. He liked the name "Jim" and began using it exclusively. From Basic, he picked up Debbie in Lawton and they moved to Denver for more training. After, Denver, Jim was stationed at Shaw AFB in South Carolina. It was there they experienced the birth of their first Child, Bryan Lee, who was born with spina bifida at the T6 level. As Bryan needed large hospitals close by, they were transferred to Tucson, where they spent over 6 years and had two more children, Jennifer and Timothy. Jim then took 9 months out of the Air Force and moved back to Lawton. Jim worked for Dolese at the plant. He returned to the Air Force and moved his family to Cannon AFB, New Mexico. Debbie says they were there 6 years, 2 months and nine days. Next, Jim was transferred to Langley AFB, Virginia. While there, Bryan developed many health problems and died on November 20, 1991, in Norfolk, Virginia. Jim finished his 20 years with the Air Force and retired December 1, 1994. They moved to OKC in 1995, leaving behind Jennifer who had graduated high school. Later, Jennifer moved to OKC and, after working in OKC for 6 months, entered the Navy, where she is still serving at OceanaNAS in Virginia. Jim was again working and decided to return to college and attended OSU OKC, majoring in engineering. He was a work study at VA Medical Center. He had an opportunity for full-time work at VA. He continued working full-time and college full-time. He stayed with VA until 2011 when he was forced by health issues to take medical retirement. Jim and Debbie were happily married 42 years. Jim is survived by Debbie, of the home; daughter, Jennifer and partner David Keeler, Virginia Beach, VA; and son, Timothy and life partner James Thomas of OKC. He was predeceased by his son, Bryan, and his parents. He is also survived by brothers, Mike Morgan and wife Barbara of Lawton, OK, Robert Morgan of Washington state; sister, Danna Guy and husband Ken of Lawton. OK; in addition to 7 nieces and nephews. Jim loved Debbie's family. He was predeceased by her parents, the late Louis Lee and Irmgard Hester. He is survived by her brother, Jon L. Hester and wife Karen of OKC; her sister, Frances Gamble of Earle, Arkansas; 4 nephews, 3 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew. Jim's great love was service. He was a member of Westside Lions Club and Cornerstone UMC. At Cornerstone, he developed a food pantry which became his passion. He loved having food for the hungry in the 73107 zip code. He worked tirelessly on this effort, even during his cancer treatment. As this was his passion, he respectfully requested that there be no flowers at his service. To beautify the area, he asked that anyone attending bring a canned item for the food pantry. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cornerstone UMC Food Pantry. Viewing will be Wednesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 4-8pm at Mercer-Adams, Bethany. Funeral Service will be 2:00pm, Thursday, October 22 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2604 N. May Ave., OKC. Inurnment will be Friday, 1:00pm in Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK with full military honors.
