James "Jim" Walter
Dunn
Apr 9, 1947 — Sep 5, 2024
James Walter Dunn, beloved husband, father and Papa was welcomed into the precious arms of Jesus on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the age of 77.
Jim was born April 9, 1947, in Bethany, Oklahoma, the firstborn son to Lester and Margaret Dunn.
He attended Bethany Public Schools, graduating in 1965. He then attended Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), graduating in 1969 with a degree in Business.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Tamara (Adams) Dunn, whom he met in eighth grade while at Bethany Public Schools. They married on June 28, 1968, sharing 56 years of rich blessings of family, friends and associations across the years.
Jim and Tammie share two daughters, Lezli (Todd) Shire and Lorrie (Geron) Cottam; and five grandchildren, Bailey, Dylan and Savannah Shire, and Libby and Gauge Cottam. He is also survived by his brother, John Dunn, and a large extended family.
After working in the banking business in college, Jim worked for Xerox for eight years. He then started American Sun Protection, specializing in window tinting for auto and commercial buildings. In 1983, Jim began his almost 42-year career with State Farm Insurance and leaves an impressionable footprint within the State Farm family that is synonymous with integrity and dedication.
Jim faithfully attended Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where he was an active member of the Choir and served on several Boards and Foundations, supporting the ministry of BFC through the years. He loved spending time with his family; especially attending grandkids' sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, going to the lake, traveling with Tammie and friends, and being the "go-to guy" for everyone! He leaves behind a lasting legacy of service to others, a deep love for Jesus, and a life lived with open arms and a generous heart.
