James (Jay) Lowel Foster went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2017 around 5:40 a.m. He was born to James Riley and Dulce Foster on April 4, 1927 in Lone Wolf, OK, the youngest of 11 children. For most of his childhood, Jay lived in Bethany, OK on Donald and the corner of 41st and Willow. Upon graduation from Bethany High School, Jay joined the US Air Force. After his military commitment was complete, he moved back to Bethany and became a shoe repairman. In 1950, he met a petite young lady named Rita Mae Coble from Jonesboro, AR, who moved to Bethany to become a student at Bethany Peniel College. Jay and Rita fell in love and married on August 5, 1951.
After the birth of his two daughters in 1952 and 1955, Jay began looking for a more lucrative job with benefits. As a result, he became a mailman with the US Post Office and stayed until his retirement in 1989. In 1970, Jay and Rita became the proud parents of a boy, James Ronald Foster. By that time, their daughters were 17 and 14. The family attended Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene and became well-grounded in Gods Word and His work.
Jay was well-known for his patient, easy-going and laid-back style. He worked well and steady with his hands. Jay was a man of few words, but when he spoke, they were words of wisdom. When Jay told a joke, everybody took notice. His stories and memories were so vivid and detailed, a book should have been written in his name. He deeply loved his family and attended to them with great loyalty. He loved to travel, camp, fish, play Rook with friends and have lavish meals with family and friends (in which Rita did the cooking).
In the latter years of Jay and Ritas marriage, Rita was diagnosed with a debilitating disease. Jay faithfully attended to his wifes needs during her long illness, whether in their home or Grace Living Center. He set a fine example for his family, friends, and nursing home patients and staff by visiting his wife daily and serving her well. Jay was faithful to perfection, patient to a fault, and unreservedly devoted to Rita throughout their marriage and her long illness. Jays representation of Jesus was tenderly displayed as he cared for his wife and lovingly fulfilled his wedding vows to her. Rita died in 2011. Thank you, Rita and Jay, for passing your spiritual legacy to your family and extending your influence to all who knew you.
Jay is preceded in death by his wife, parents, ten siblings, two great-grandchildren (Jade and Amber White) and many friends. He is survived by his daughters Sherrie Lanette Dunn and LaDonna Carol Pursifull; his son, James Ronald Foster; six grandchildren: Shannon Dunn Woodruff, Chad Dunn, Brad Stringer, Hollie Stringer White, Shawn Dunn and Kamber Dunn Hurst; and his 13 great-grandchildren: Kurt White, Ryan Woodruff, Kaymen White, Kollin White, Alexandria White, Kayelyn Woodruff, Aleya White-Hoops, Mia Getto, Liam Hurst, Sadie Hurst, Kellea Woodruff, Case Dunn and Kate Dunn.
