It is with great sadness that the family of James Demaret announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
Born on August 5, 1918, in Carona, Kansas to Fernand and Sarah Demaret. He graduated in 1936 from Columbus, Kansas High School, and in 1941 received a B.S. Degree from the school of Business at the University of Kansas. Jim was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
He served four years in World War II at various Army posts and overseas in the Philippine Islands. During this time, he met in Little Rock, Arkansas and married his beloved wife, Doris M. Jones. Their marriage lasted more than sixty-six years before her passing in 2010.
He had a career with Cities Service Gas Co. for 41 years when he retired in 1982 as Treasurer of the company.
Jim and Doris joined Wesley Methodist Church in 1947. He has served as the leader of the Financial Committee, Chairman of the Official Board, and Chairman of the Council on Ministries. Also, they were active in starting the Mature Adults programs.
Golf was a great pastime of his. He was proud of his 2 holes-in-one. A member of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club, and the Oklahoma Senior Golf Assoc.
One of his special highlights in later years was to go to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight for World War II veterans to visit the World War II memorial. It was a great day for him.
For the past ten years his home has been at the Concordia Life Care Community in independent living and the last few months in the nursing center. A special thank you for all the wonderful care at Concordia Nursing and Mercy Hospice.
Jim continued to be active by making hundreds of knitted caps and beautiful crosses, donating them to the military and charitable organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Fernand of Falls Church, VA.
Survivors include his daughter, Janet Kay and son-in-law Gordon Green of OKC; three grandchildren, Brian K. Moore and wife Kimberly of Colorado Springs, CO, Roger J. Moore of Bixby, OK, and Krista Ann Straw and husband Steven of Frisco, TX; and six great-grandchildren.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was respected and loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 14, 9am-9pm, with family present from 4-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Thursday, February 15, 1:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Tinker Air Force Base Honor Guard.
