James "Jay" Mitchell Baker was born April 19, 1966, in Oklahoma City, OK., and died November 12, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, David Baker. Jay is survived by his mother and stepfather, Edna and John Westmoreland; brothers, Shawn and Byron; niece, Caitlin Baker; and nephews, Grayson, Avery, Davidson and Coleson Baker. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jay spent most of his life in Norman, where he graduated from high school in 1984. While at Norman High, he played football and basketball, and was an outstanding athlete. After high school, Jay started his career at Safeway grocery store, which later became Homeland. He would spend over 28 years at Homeland as a cashier, merchandiser, and produce manager. Jay had no shortage of friends, and those who knew him loved his tender heart and kind soul. Much like his father, he was a man of few words, but had an extraordinarily strong love for family, particularly his father who also passed too soon. Also, Jay had a deep love for God and Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where he grew up. He was a huge sports fan, and wouldn't hesitate to share his opinions. He was an avid golfer, and particularly enjoyed teeing it up with his stepfather, Johnny and his group of buddies. To Jay, no shot was too long, nor too short, for his driver. Jay deeply loved his family. He always talked about good times, and never wanted to miss a get together nor a reunion. He especially loved his niece and nephews, and his home was filled with their pictures. His memorial service will be on Monday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, in Bethany, OK.
