Jack Arthur Word was born in Calvin, OK on January 19, 1939 to James and Ida May (Barber) Word and passed away surrounded by family on August 16, 2009. After graduating from Bethany High School, he attended Phillips University, OU and OCU. He served in the U.S. Army and was in the 95th Infantry Band. On December 18, 1959 he married Marlene Davis at Putnam City Christian Church and they settled in Bethany. Jack worked for Southwestern Bell and retired in 1989 from AT&T to travel with Marlene and enjoy his family. He was an active member and Deacon Emeritus of Western Oaks Christian Church. He was an avid bowler and the proud owner of a 300 ring for bowling a perfect game. Through good seasons and bad, he was always a steadfast OU Sooner fan. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Troy Word. He is survived by his wife, Marlene and children Scott and Pat Word and Wendy and Robert Wilkerson, all of Bethany; sister Betty Reed of Indiana; sister and brother-in-law Jamey and Mohammad Faddah of Amman, Jordan; sister-in-law Mary Nusz of Kansas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leon and Linda Davis of Mustang; grandchildren Britany and Casey Cordes, Katelynn Word, Josh and Matt Wilkerson; great-grandchildren Braxton and Cegan Cordes; step-grandchildren Stephanie and Mark Nunley, Angie and Jason Burks, Lisa and Taylor Walck; step-great-grandchildren Lynsey, Abigail, Jacob, Zackary, Allison, Cooper, Autumn and Micah; and a large extended family and circle of friends.
