Obituary

Jack William Langston, 98 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord April 6, 2019. He was born on March 2, 1921 at Chickasha, Oklahoma, first born son of George William and Elsie Martha Ruble Langston. The family moved to Bridge Creek area when he was in elementary school and Jack graduated at the age of 15 from Bridge Creek High School as Salutatorian of his class. Jack enlisted in the Marine Corps February 14, 1942 and served until September 29, 1945. After boot camp at Camp Pendleton, CA, he served in the South Pacific and participated in five major battles, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. After the World War II ended and he was discharged he returned to Tuttle Oklahoma to farm. He met Betty Ruth Robertson in March 1946, and they were married October 13, 1946 at Tuttle Methodist Church after a mostly by mail courtship. They purchased a farm in 1948 and planned on farming but God had other plans. Most important change was Jacks acceptance of Jesus as his Savior in 1947. After selling bottled raw milk door to door in Tuttle, Jack went to work for The Oklahoma Publishing Company March 1, 1953 in the circulation department, working in every area of that department until 1976 when he took early retirement and then went to work for Ford Audio Video where he was a sales consultant working with churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Nevada and beyond. He loved his work and continued working until his 85th birthday. In retirement he worked with Whiz Kids and loved mentoring young men and boys. Jack and Betty were able to celebrate 72 wonderful years of marriage in October 2018. Jack was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Tuttle, Oklahoma and served there as well as Portland Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He loved his church and served in many capacities, but as he aged, one of his greatest joys was the hugs he got from the little kids. Jack and Betty had the most wonderful privilege of being parents to Karen Kay. Watching her grow up and being part of that process was his greatest joy. When granddaughter Ashley Nicole came along he was completely smitten. Son-in-law Larry Howe was his best buddy. He welcomed Preston Jones into the family when he and Ashley married and the ultimate was the birth of Allie Drew, now almost 5, his great granddaughter. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Henry, Ruble, Bill, and sister Voncille Smith. Our special thanks to Baptist Village Neighborhood Rehab personnel who cared for him and whom he loved. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Portland Avenue Baptist Church at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to his beloved church or Gideons International.
