Obituary

Jackie R. "Jack" Hoskins, 73, went to his eternal home on March 9, 2013. Jack, of Bethany, Oklahoma was born of February 12, 1940 to Charlie and Ruth Hoskins. He was preceded in death by his baby brother, William Calvin, his mother and father, and his eldest brother, Charles Hoskins. Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Fran Hoskins, and a younger brother, Milton Hoskins of Edmond, OK. Jack was married to Frances Starkey-Hoskins on August 19, 1961. Together they had three children: Mitch Hoskins and wife Becky and their children Jarrod Hoskins, Joshua Hoskins and his wife Katherine; Mike Hoskins and wife Patty and their children Sheridan and Maci Hoskins; Gayla Hoskins-Atkins and husband Robert and their children Sean Lucas and wife Christine and their children Riley and Toireasa, US Army Sgt. Jonathon Ryan Atkins, Jacquie Lucas-Holder and husband US Air Force Staff Sgt. Justin Holder and their children Grayson and Rhett Holder, Hanna Atkins, Trinity and Jayden Atkins. Jack became a member of the Bethany Fire Department in 1959. In 1961, he joined the Bethany Police Department and served until his retirement in 1981. Jack served the Lord, his family and his community with honor. Jack developed, organized and implemented many programs and events for the police department and the community. Jack was FBI certified in crime scene photography and started Bethany PD's first Photo Lab. In 1970, he became a firearms instructor and started the first Police Pistol Team for Bethany PD, winning several team championships. In 1977, Jack organized the first Bethany Police Honor Guard, which still exists today. Jack's love for the Lord, his family, community and horses inspired him to organize and start the first Bethany 4th of July parade and Family Fun Festival. Jack joined the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office on March 1, 1982 and served until March 2002. While at the Sheriff's Office, his passion for horses and community inspired him to organize and start the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol Unit with his favorite horse, Britches Gal. Jack was also the Range Master and lead firearms instructor for many years. Over the years, Jack touched the lives of so many people. His accomplishments are too many to mention. He would say that his greatest accomplishment was providing for his family, serving the Lord in all that he did, and being a LAWMAN. Jacks Motto for Life: Do what is Right, Do your Best, Treat others with Respect. Viewing will be Monday, 12-9pm, with the family present from 5-7pm, at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow in Bethany Cemetery.
