Jack W.
Cox
Aug 21, 1934 — Jan 18, 2024
Jack Wayne Cox, 89, was born on August 21, 1934, in Bonham, Texas,
and left his earthly home on January 18, 2024. He was the seventh
child born to John Green Cox and Effie Flora Nicholson Cox.
Jack and his family eventually moved to Sherman, Texas, where he
was actively involved in sports during his high school years, particularly
baseball. He also enjoyed football, golf, and bowling. He excelled in all
he did.
The day he turned 18, Jack began his career with OG&E. Early in his
career he worked as a lineman. As he moved up the ladder of success,
he became the director of the OSHA program. He retired from OG&E
after 42 years of service. For a brief time, Jack worked with his son,
Jim, in establishing a new company. As the company grew, Jack
moved on to a job at Ace Hardware. He worked there full-time for 15
years and part-time for 5 years. He was a favorite at the store. His soft-
spoken ways and knowledge of the products earned him many awards
within the company, including National Employee of the Month. After
leaving Ace Hardware, Jack did not like to be idle, so he delivered food
for Meals on Wheels.
The joys of his life were his three sons. He worked with them to impart
the wisdom he had learned throughout the years. He helped them in
baseball and football programs, but more than that, he taught them to
be honorable men.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae (Hickey) Cox, as well as
his parents and six siblings, Leonard Clifton "Tip" Cox, Anna Muriel Davis,
Verla Fern McKown, Geneva Zell Lackey-Baker, and twins, Doris Dean
Pulley and Doyle Gene Cox. He is survived by three sons, Jack Wayne Cox,
Jr (Maria); James "Jim" Hershel Cox (Jennifer); and Mark Steven Cox (Angela);
grandchildren, Delores, Robert, Arthur, David, Rebecca, James, Thomas,
and Robin;16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Jack were honored to be his friends. His gentle ways
and steadfast friendship will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 24 at
