Irma Elmina Patterson, 88, died at home February 5, 2023. She was born July 6, 1934 in Eldon, Iowa to Lester and Mary (Cubbage) Cloke. Irma, the oldest of eleven children, grew up on a farm in Iowa. As a young adult she left school to work helping her parents and siblings. She married William D. Patterson, a marine in 1952. After the service, they moved from San Diego, California, back to Iowa, and ultimately on to Gary, Indiana, which became their hometown for 57 years. Irma was a mother who always made her children her priority. Her hobbies while her children were young were to crochet, embroider, and bake. She could not abandon farming, so she maintained her own garden. She enjoyed being a successful Avon sales representative for many years and worked at other short-term jobs. Irma worked for Dawn Foods for over ten years. She and Bill moved to Nevada in 2011 and on to Oklahoma in 2015. In Oklahoma, Irma attended OKC First Church of the Nazarene.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Mary Johnson Runion of Oklahoma City; sons, Charles Patterson of Portage, Indiana; William "Bill" Patterson of Oklahoma City; and Joseph "Joe" Patterson of Nevada; siblings, George Cloke, Ruben Cloke, Rose Saben, William Cloke, Margaret Nelson, Helen Walker, and Raymond Cloke; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, William Patterson; daughter, Helen Louise Patterson; 2 brothers, Robert and James Cloke; and sister, Mary Evelyn Cloke.
