Irene Curl Crosby, age 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went peacefully to be with her Lord on January 18, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Irene, daughter of Roy and Ruth Edmond Curl, was born November 8, 1921 in her parents farmhouse in eastern Colorado. She was the oldest of three children. Both of her parents passed away when she was young and she went to live with her grandparents, Pastor and Mrs. George Edmundson, both of whom had a great influence upon her upbringing and her faith.
The day after Irene graduated from high school, May 25, 1942, she married George Ernest Crosby in Denver, Colorado. George graduated from Colorado School of Mines that same weekend; two days later they drove to the West Texas oil fields where he began a 40-year career as a petroleum engineer. They were married 55 years until his death in 1997. They had three children, each of whom she taught the meaning of love, the importance of family and tradition, and the value of deep faith. A homemaker until, at the age of 40, Irene chose to pursue a nursing career. Working as an LPN in hospitals for 25 years, she continued to give herself unselfishly to others.
Her skill as a nurse as well as her unmatched giving heart allowed her to take care of her husband, George, and her daughter, Ann, both of whom suffered from multiple sclerosis, until their deaths. She was an extremely active member of New Hope United Methodist Church and a woman of unwavering faith. Her giving heart, gentleness and genuine love of family and friends encouraged people to seek her presence.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Jean Crosby and her spouse, Mary Anderson of Fort Bragg, CA; and her son, George and his wife Susan of Houston, TX. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lisa Fikes (husband Scott) and Brian Crosby (wife Margaret); six great-grandchildren, Sarah Grace and Katie, James and Nate, Ryan and Ann. Daughter, Virginia Ann Hansen and granddaughter, Cari Hansen Seefeldt predeceased her.
The family would like to express our deep gratitude for the loving care Irene received from Tara Alonzo and Patrick Murray as well as the wonderful staff at Baptist Village of Oklahoma City.
