Obituary

Jean Straughan left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on June 25, 2015. She was born on March 22, 1922 to John and Dorothy Barlow in Shreveport, LA. She loved the responsibility that came with being the oldest of seven children. She remained in a close relationship with her siblings throughout her life. During WWII, she became a real life "Rosie the Riveter," building engine components for Boeing B-29s. In 1943, she met her beloved husband, Louis B. Straughan Jr., and married him July 21, 1945. She became a nurse's aide on the maternity ward of Charity Hospital in Shreveport, LA. In 1965, she and Louis moved to Oklahoma City and joined Putnam City Baptist Church where she served in the benevolence ministry and was a member for 50 years. She found great purpose serving the sick and bereaved. She also worked as a cafeteria hostess for a few years at Western Oaks JHS and then several more years at Hefner JHS. She spent many years as a homemaker. She enjoyed making large meals and desserts for her friends and family, but what gave her the most joy in life was being a caretaker of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Judith, Michelle, Mindy, Brooke, Barkley, Brenda, Joyce and all of her private duty nurses and Crossroads Hospice for providing her superb care while she spent her last moments surrounded by family in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister, daughter Janis, and husband Louis. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Woodward and husband, Russell; son, Gary Straughan and wife, Debbie; brother, Ollie Barlow; grandchildren, Kristin and husband Nick, Angela and husband Chris, Justin, Joel and wife Kelcey, Heather, Camarie and husband Kevin; great grandchildren, Meadow, Blayne, Andrew, Eli, Eleanor, Taylore, and Layla. Viewing will be Tuesday, June 30, 9am-9pm with family present from 6:30-8:30pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral service will be Wednesday July 1, 2:00pm at Putnam City Baptist Church with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Putnam City Baptist Church in Jean's memory. Funeral Service Wednesday, July 1, 2015 02:00 PM Putnam City Baptist Church 11401 N.
