Obituary

Ida Mae Woody Wilson was born December 24, 1907 in Ardmore, OK. Our Sweet Auntie missed her 109th birthday by 34 days and passed into heaven Sunday November 20, 2016. Auntie spent 50 years with Southwestern Bell and AT&T beginning in Norman in 1925. She attended OU beginning in 1927 and later met the love of her life, Paul Wilson. It was during this time she developed her passion for OU football attending her 1st game in the fall of 1927. In her 100th year in 2007, OU honored her for attending OU football games for 80 consecutive years. Later that year Barry Switzer gave her an autographed football "love my #1 fan". It was that same year that Oklahoma also celebrated being a state for 100 years and Willard Scott of NBC came to OKC and celebrated with all the centenarians and took pictures with Auntie. Auntie did not have children of her own but claimed her sister and brothers children as her own. She joined St. Lukes Methodist in the 1930s and was active for over 60 years. After retiring in 1975, she enjoyed traveling to many parts of our country and especially enjoyed trips to Colorado and Maine. Throughout her life, she was always positive and never had a bad day. She loved people and lived independently for 106 years before moving to St. Anns Home in December of 2014. She was preceded in death by husband Paul, sister Elizabeth Gay, brother Bill Woody and nephew Phil Gay. She leaves behind Nephew Paul Woody and his wife Linda and great nephews Grant Woody and his wife Carrie, Lee Woody and his wife Stephenie, and great niece Allison Currie and her husband Taylor. Also, nephew Stephen Woody and his wife Susan of Sheridan, Wyoming and great nephew Will and his wife Jeana and great niece Ryann Woody. In addition, she leaves behind Niece Sharen Gay Vernale and her husband Richard of Louisville, Kentucky and great nephews Chris and Michael; Niece Beverly Gay of Oklahoma City. She also leaves behind twelve great great nephews and nieces. We give special thanks to the staff of St. Anns Home and the care of Heavenly Hospice who cared for her needs and in particular to Niece Allison Currie who spent time with her each week for the past 10 years enriching her life and making sure she had everything she needed. Viewing will be Sunday, November 27 from 11:00am -9:00pm with family present from noon to 2:00 at Mercer Adams Funeral Home in Bethany, OK.
