Obituary

On August 1, 2013, Ida Mae Graves died peacefully at her Oklahoma City home at the age of 89. Ida Mae Kathleen Looney was born February 23, 1924 in Fort Scott, Kansas. When she was three, her parents, A.J. and Iva Jane Looney, moved to Oklahoma City. She attended Central High School, graduating as a Cardinal. Ida Mae attended business school and then went to work at the Army Recruiting Station in OKC, where she met her future husband, Richard "Dick" Graves. Dick was a sailor attending school at the Naval Station in Norman. Soon after, they were married in Florida, where Dick was stationed. During her husband's naval career, Ida Mae worked at the Naval Station in the supply department. They then returned to Oklahoma City and established their residence. Dick and Ida Mae celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Ida Mae loved music, and she sang at many, many weddings, funerals and receptions. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nichols Hills, where she sang in the choir for 43 years. For 25 years, she worked as the secretary for Street and Draper Funeral Home, owned by former OKC Mayor Allen Street.
