On Sunday March 21st, at 3:41pm, Howard Ray Lee Jr., loving husband and father of two children and three step children, was suddenly and very unexpectedly, taken from this world.
Howard was born January 31st, 1957 to Howard Ray Lee Sr. and Mary H. Lee. He graduated from Northwest Classen, class of 1975. On January 7th, 1977 he married Sharalyn Sue Parker and raised one son, Michael, and one daughter, Kristen. On July 19th, 1997 he married his second wife, Joanna Louise Jetter and raised three step sons, Shawn, Darrel, and Terry.
Howard was hospitalized on Thanksgiving Day with COVID-19, and bravely fought for his life for 116 excruciating days, while his family was left helpless on the sidelines due to hospital guidelines.
Although he was able to overcome the disease itself and seemed to be on the mend, the damage to his body from this awful disease and his hard fought battle with it, was too great. Just when his family thought he may be coming home soon, a sudden brain hemorrhage claimed his life, much to the shock and horror of his family and loved ones.
Howard was a good and honest man who was loved by all that knew him. If there were but a single voice to speak negatively of him, it would quickly be drown in an enormous swell from the ocean of voices that loved and adored him. He was a husband, a father, a friend, an advisor, and a confidant. His two children were proud to call him father, and through the years, his three step sons grew proud to call him dad. He also became known as a second father to many of his children's friends throughout their adolescence and into their adulthood, offering advice and counsel through thick or thin. He was respected by many.
He was a born comedian, although he never pursued the hobby as a profession. He was a library of dad jokes and one liners, who always had a quick remark or witty comment that would bring the whole room to laughter. It was almost impossible to be in a bad mood when in his presence. His smile was infectious.
He was also a passionate fan of Elvis Presley and held a collection of many of his albums, movies, and memorabilia which he displayed proudly in his home and gladly shared with anyone showing interest. Always the entertainer, he was quick to grab the microphone on karaoke night and belt out his favorite Elvis song, however off key, while performing his own impression of the famous lip curl and signature hip shake for the amusement of his friends and family. He was the life of the party.
His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as "Pappy", a family nickname his father held before him and handed down upon his passing. He took up the moniker proudly, and showed love and affection to all his grandchildren as only he could do. His absence leaves a hole in the heart of our entire family that can never be filled. He will be missed dearly.
Howard Ray Lee Jr. is preceded by his father Howard Ray Lee Sr., his mother Mary H. Lee, his two brothers Gary and Dennis Hinkle. He is survived by his wife, Joanna, his son and daughter, Michael Lee and Kristen Atkinson, his three step sons, Shawn, Darrell and Terrence Jetter, his sister Paula Morriss, 8 grandchildren, 7 nephews, 3 nieces, and his life-long friends who were like brothers to him, Bill Parker and Rush Ford.
Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.
