Obituary

On January 25, 2020, Herbert Loyd Keith went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zo Ann, his parents, and four brothers. Loyd was born near Borger, Texas on the Four Sixes Ranch, October 5, 1932 to Herbert and Goldie (Cline) Keith. He grew up in the ranch life with five brothers, Dudley, Jim Bob, Welton, Joe, and George with Welton residing now in Fort Worth, Texas. Loyd and two brothers moved to Elkhart, Kansas where he completed his high school education. He met Zo Ann Tucker, the love of his life, in Elkhart and they married there December 16, 1951. Loyd and Zo Ann moved to Bethany, Oklahoma in 1952 where he enrolled at Bethany-Peniel College (Southern Nazarene University). While raising a family, he worked at a lumber yard then nearby at Lee Way Motor Freight in Oklahoma City where he retired. Loyd and Zo Ann became a part of the Bethany community and lived there the rest of their lives. They both were very involved at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and considered the church their home and their family. Personal involvement with their church family members included years of staff work with the seniors retreat, NIROGA, in New Mexico. Although Loyd lived in town for the rest of his life, he always felt tied to ranching where he and his brothers owned land and cattle in Oklahoma and Texas. He heard his Lord's calling to prison ministries and spent 30 years as a Prison Fellowship minister in the federal and state prisons in Oklahoma. He led others to be involved with this ministry. Loyd was well known for his humor, ability to see the positive in any situation, his love and acceptance for people in all walks of life, and his desire to let Gods love shine through him. He is survived by his three children, Darlene of Spokane, Washington; Darrell (Vicki) of Alliance, Nebraska; and Alan (Tina) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Steven, Lyne, and Rose. Services will be held Friday, February 28, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
