Herbert Eugene Chambers, 83, went to be with his Savior on May 28, 2011. He was born January 30, 1928 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Morrell and Nola Chambers. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Sherry; sons, Gene and Norman; his parents; and three brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa West of Columbia, Missouri; son, Paul of Flanders, New Jersey; brothers, Donald of Holland, Michigan and Vernon of Newland, North Carolina; sisters, Laurene of Wichita, Kansas, Mary Katherine of Lorraine, Kansas and Carol of Rolla, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. After high school, Gene served in the Army Air Corps in Fort Worth, Texas and Kearney, Nebraska. Gene and Vivian were married on August 13, 1950. Gene graduated in 1952 from Bethany Nazarene College, with a degree in vocal music. He obtained a masters degree in vocal music from Wichita State University and a masters of divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Genes pastorates include: Warrensburg, Missouri; Mountain Air, New Mexico; White Rock, New Mexico; Buena Park, California (Minister of Music); Gridley, California and Erick, Oklahoma. He was a professor of music at Bethany Nazarene College and a professor of music and theology at Nazarene Indian Bible College. Gene was Manager of Bethany Place Apartments. He attended Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, singing in the choir and was an active member of the Kumjoynus Sunday School class. He retired in Bethany in 1994. He lived near his daughter in Columbia, Missouri from 2008 until his death. Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund through the Office of Endowment Development at Southern Nazarene University, 6729 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, Oklahoma 73008. Gene is deeply loved by his family and friends. His faith in God and love of music have been handed down to his children and his childrens children. He will be greatly missed. The gates of Heaven have been opened wide for his homecoming. Let the celebration begin!!!
