Helene Carson was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 17, 2024. She was born in Anthony, Kansas to Melvin Dee and Myrna Joyce Thorp on November 12, 1962. Raised in Enid, Oklahoma, Helene graduated from Kremlin high school in 1981, enlisted in the United States Air Force and married Charles Carson later the same year.
Helene's Air Force tenure ended with the arrival of Joshua Lee in 1982. She then began a 10-year career rising to store manager with Eckerd Drug and relocated to Yukon, Oklahoma. Nicholas Trey was born in March of 1989 and Matthew Alexander in February 1993.
God opened the door for Helene to become a Special Education Teaching Assistant after Matt's muscular dystrophy diagnosis. She found a passion in educating children with special needs and began the quest to receive her teaching credentials. Helene graduated from UCO in 2007, summa cum laude, with highest distinction and received a master's degree in special education administration from SNU in December of 2019. Helene moved to Bethany High School where she touched the lives of students, parents and staff with love and patience until October 2023.
In 2006, Helene gained a daughter when Josh married Lindsay and could not wait for grandkids. Addison, Luke and Kennedy made her life complete. She could not wait for the weekends to make the trip to Texas to see them. In addition to being Mimi, Helene was a Sunday School and Quizzing teacher, treasurer and board member at their church.
Helene was preceded in death by son, Matthew; father, Melvin; grandparents, Harry and Ina Koehn; uncle, Kenny; and great aunt, Nell. She is survived by her husband, Chuck; son, Josh his wife Lindsay; grandchildren, Addison, Luke and Kennedy of Prosper, Texas; son, Nick of Oklahoma City; mother, Myrna Thorp of Enid; and numerous brothers, sisters, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
