Obituary

Helen Elizabeth Edwards Silvey of Bethany, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2014. She was born on November 18, 1931 in Kansas City, Kansas and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were Robert A. and Mildred S. Edwards, both deceased. She was married to the late Dr. Lawrence E. Silvey on September 16, 1950. Helen graduated from Southern Nazarene University with a degree in vocal music education. She is survived by her sister, Ann Moore, of Mission Viejo, California; her children: daughter, Linda Comingdeer of Edmond, Oklahoma, wife of Ron; daughter, Laura Gering of Bethany, Oklahoma, wife of Perry; son, Larry Silvey of Victoria, Texas; and daughter, Lisa Hopkins of Bethany, Oklahoma, wife of Scott. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Laura Stearman, Ryan Comingdeer, Rachel Comingdeer, Rob Gering, Dan Gering, Melanie Gering, Michael Silvey, Steven Silvey, Jennifer Silvey, Jessica Hopkins, Jake Hopkins and Cade Hopkins. She also had 12 great-grandchildren. Helen loved her home church, Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and was also involved in many ministries throughout the years. She taught elementary and junior high choirs and served on the church board for 28 years. She enjoyed music and especially the music of BFC, singing in the BFC choir from 1958-2003. Helen was a group leader and writer for the Wisdom of the Word Bible Study and also taught the Bethel Bible Series. Having compassion for the life of unborn children, she volunteered at Birth Choice for 20 years. She also did volunteer work for the Dale Rogers School for the mentally handicapped. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived in Bethany, enjoying her many friendships along with Bethany and SNU athletic events. Her other loves included watching Thunder basketball, reading and playing the piano. Mostly, she loved the Lord and her family. Viewing will be Friday, noon-9pm, with the family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Saturday, January 4, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
