Helen Marie Hawkinson went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 15, 2009. She was affectionately known to many as Nurse Helen or Mimi. She was born on May 16, 1931 in McAlester, Oklahoma, one of three children born to Cornish and Mary Gardner. Helen graduated from McAlester High School and went to on get her degree in Nursing from Sparks Memorial Hospital. She married her life-long sweetheart, Maurice Lee Hawkinson, on June 5, 1953. She spent the next fifty years employed as an RN. One of her greatest joys was her career as a Nurse. During that time she touched more lives than we will ever know. She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice. She is survived by her son Neil and wife Kathy, son Brent and wife Teresa, daughter Laura and husband Ken, sisters Sara McEuen and Mary K. Dobinski; as well as nine grandchildren, and nineteen nieces and nephews. Helen and Maurice were long time members of Ridgecrest UMC and the Beck Sunday School Class. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Services will be Sat., April 18, 9:30am at Mercer-Adams Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
