Obituary

Harry Sawatzky, age 86, began celebrating his new life in Heaven on February 6th, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and six brothers. Harry grew up on a farm near Weatherford, OK. He joined the Army with plans of becoming an airplane mechanic but had to take an early discharge when his father became ill. One of the highlights of his life was serving as song leader at Immanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford. He was given the opportunity to attend a one week class at Oklahoma Baptist University, taught by Warren Angell, who was dean of the College of Fine Arts at the time. He married Gladys Heidebrecht in September of 1950. He attended railroad telegraphy school in Colorado, moved back to OKC and worked for Capitol Steel, Smico and Western Electric (AT&T) where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 1988. Harry greatly enjoyed his retirement! He and Gladys traveled the United States with their camper trailer, took several bus trips and even took a trip to Hawaii. When they weren't traveling, Harry enjoyed working in his shop making crafts and building furniture items for their home and for his children and grandchildren. He also made a variety of items used by their church in Children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Harry is survived by his wife, Gladys, whom he loved and cherished for 62 years. His hard work and sacrifices are appreciated by his daughter and son-in-law, Carlotta and David Williams, and son Quentin and his wife Beth. Harry thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren: Cameron and Tiffany Williams, Nathan Williams, April and Jon Lamb, and Andrew, Matthew and Katie Sawatzky. His legacy will be shared with his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Henry Lamb. He will be missed by his older sister, Dorothy Isaak and baby sister, Lorene Nikkel. Harry's earthly life will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9th at Putnam City Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 am. The family will be present to greet friends on Friday, February 8th from 6pm - 8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral Service Saturday, February 9, 2013 10:00 AM Putnam City Baptist Church 11401 N. Rockwell Oklahoma City, OK 73162
