Obituary

Harry J. Duke Jr., 83, of Oklahoma City, passed away on January 25, 2011 at the VA Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK, succumbing to illness. Harry was born in Pittston, PA to Harry J. Duke and Anna Makalusky Duke on July 5 1927. He was a 1945 graduate of Pittston High School. Harry served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Private 1st Class. He then served in the US Air Force, SAC, Airmen First Class and was honorably discharged in 1952. Air Force Commendations: National Defense Service Medal and Aviation Badge Air Crew. US Department of Defense Commendation: Cold War Certificate of Recognition. Harry was employed by Ford Motor Co. (Detroit, MI), the CAA/FAA (Poughkeepsie, NY; Wilkes Barre, PA; San Juan, PR; & Millville, NJ), and the University of Oklahoma at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, Oklahoma City, OK. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, OX5, AOPA and the VFW. Harry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn B. McHale. He is also survived by his children: Mary Ellen, Harry J. III, Catherine Morehouse, Martin, Brian and Charles; grandchildren: Christopher, Shannon, Hannah, Megan and Aiden; siblings: Paul, James, Sister Jane Mary IHM; and his Aunt Lenore Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann Daley and son Christopher M. Duke. Viewing will be held at Mercer-Adams, 3925 N Asbury, Bethany, OK at 7 PM on Thursday, January 27, 2011. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 28 at St. Charles Borromeo, 5024 N. Grove, OKC, OK. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Compassionate Friends of N. OKC, PO Box 12249, OKC, OK 73157, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
