Harold Lee (Hal) Young, 88, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born January 15, 1930 to Bert and Helen Young in Spokane, WA. He was blessed with a long and healthy life, which he attributed to having a positive attitude, a smiling face and following a dedicated exercise and diet program. He was a Korean War Army Veteran, honorably discharged in 1953. He then started his career working for the Spokane Review Newspaper. He was offered a position in the circulation department of The Daily Oklahoman and made his home in Oklahoma City. He worked there in various capacities for 35 years. For many years he was the Educational Consultant, heavily involved in the Living Textbook program and the National Spelling Bee. Hal was a longtime member of the Siloam Masonic Lodge. Over the years, he held many positions, including the leader of the Oriental Band playing the musette. He performed in many parades and band competitions in various states. After retirement, Hal continued to stay very active, enjoying concerts, local events, and tuning pianos for various churches and individuals across Oklahoma and Texas. He truly enjoyed a full and productive life! He is survived by his daughter, Christy Young OKeeffe and his son, Paul Young, two sisters, Mary Ann Ehnert and Dorothy Brown of Washington State, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and his special friend, Stana Reeves. Memorial services will be Friday, April 13th at 2pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK 73008.
