Harold Edward Kessler, was born on March 31, 1931 to Admiral Dewey and Jessie Kessler in El Reno, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully at home on August 6th, 2021, surrounded by his family. Harold attended El Reno High School, graduating in 1949. He was quite the athlete, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball, helping the Indians win a state basketball championship in 1949, his senior year. After high school, Harold joined the Navy, serving four years in San Diego, California, and throughout several areas of the Mediterranean. Following deployment, he graduated from Central State University in Edmond with a Bachelors in Accounting. In 1959, Harold met the two loves of his life, Dorothy Ann Proctor and delicious baked goods, while working together at the Wonder Bread & Hostess Cake/Continental Baking Company. Their relationship was founded on friendship, trust and always a little something sweet to share. The couple was married on November 26, 1960 and after a brief time, moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, to build a wonderful life. Harold is survived by his wife, Ann Kessler; two children, Harold Edward Jr. and his wife, Dianne, and Kelly Ann and her husband, Paul Caesar; and was blessed to have three amazing grandchildren, Harold Edward Kessler III, his soon-to-be wife, Tori, Hillarie Elaine Kessler, and Brett Lee Caesar and wife, Laci. Known as "Papaw" to his family, Harold was extremely involved in his grandchildrens lives, driving them to numerous practices and sporting events. Papaw was their number one fan and cheerleader. He enjoyed all sports, especially OU football, and was a season ticket holder for many years, attending numerous games with his family cheering on his beloved Sooners. He was a dedicated 50-year-member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bethany. Harold was a youth group sponsor supervising several youth ski trips to Colorado, one of his favorite activities. He was a member of the Imperial Dance club where he and his favorite dance partner, Ann, loved to "cut a rug." Harold loved spending time wading in a stream trout fishing or just going on fishing trips with his buddies, a love he passed down to his children and grandsons. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge. Harold relished family dinners that he and Ann would painstakingly prepare all of the grandkids' favorite dishes. The grandkids would say that Papaw's chicken and noodles were the best in the world. They would also tell you that no one gives a better back scratch than Papaw! Harold had an insatiable sweet tooth, something that has undoubtedly been passed on to generations below him. But his demeanor and personality were just as sweet, if not more. Harold will be deeply missed, revered, and remembered as the leader of the Kessler family. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and many nieces and a nephew. The family would like to thank the wonderful 2nd-floor nurses at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital for the incredible care you took of Harold and our family and Dr. Michael Schoeffler for giving us those "bonus" years to share with him. Also, "all the thanks in the world" to Tammy Kinman, Harold's favorite nurse, who meant the world to Harold and Ann for the last few years. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 2:00 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Bethany, Oklahoma with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
