Obituary

Harold Wayne Dozier, 83, passed away at his home on February 13, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born March 27, 1937 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to William O. Dozier and Hazel L. Boudinot. He married Joan M. Overholt on August 25, 1962 in College Park, Maryland. Harold retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission as a tax administrator after 26 years of service. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served six years as a radio communications specialist. He later served in the Army National Guard as a Sgt 1st Class. Harold was involved in numerous organizations including the National Association of Tax Administrators, and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, where he served on the board of directors. He was an advisory councilmember of the SNU Academy of Senior Professionals, a member of the Oklahoma Chapter of Leukemia Lymphoma Society and a volunteer for Heart to Heart International. Harold volunteered as a courier for the Oklahoma Blood Institute, delivering blood products for transplant patients, completing 35 trips in the continental U.S. and 4 international trips. Even as he had his own battles with health issues, Harold was a patient advocate and source of support for others in a variety of ways, sometimes just sitting with a friend during their chemo treatment. He was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene for many years. Harold enjoyed reading, especially military history, and traveling and talking baseball with friends. If you were to ask him about his time on Guam, Puerto Rico, Cuba or any other number of places he traveled, his face would light up as he spoke of his adventures across the world. However, of all the adventures he had, or all the roles he held in his lifetime, Harolds favorite was being a Grandad. He was a loving role model to both grandsons and they will miss him greatly. Harold was preceded in death by parents, and his brothers, Charles Dozier and William "Billy" Dozier, and his sisters, Myrtle Snowder, Virginia Robison, and Ruby Hill. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Dozier; his children, Russ Dozier and Leslie Smith and her husband Dan; his two grandsons, Mitchell Dozier and Zachary Smith; his sister, Barbara Duley and her husband George; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
