Harold Gene Dorris was born July 28, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and passed to his eternal reward on May 22, 2018 in Bethany, Oklahoma. He was a proud 12-year member of Bethany Public Schools. After high school he attended Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) where he met Marge Isbell. They were married on June 1, 1963, in Crowley, Louisiana. To this union three daughters were born: Margo, Gina, and Dana. If ever there was a devoted father, it was Harold. The ultimate mans man, he played both semi-pro baseball, and college basketball and enjoyed golf. Yet, he could cut out paper dolls or have rollers in his hair with his 3 daughters.
Harold was a postal clerk at the Bethany Post Office for 38 years. After he retired, he and Marge enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He especially loved watching his 5 grandsons play any sport from soccer, baseball, football, basketball or golf. Harold had a deep faith in his God. His Bethany First Church of the Nazarene family were very important to him. After a serious heart attack in 2014, Harold asked to be baptized in front of his church and family as an outward sign of his personal relationship with his Savior. He sat with his family faithfully every Sunday morning, even the Sunday before entering the hospital for the last time.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Beulah Dorris, his sister, Roberta Hibbert, and brothers, Robert and Curtis Dorris. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge Dorris; and by his 3 daughters, Margo Jones and her husband Rick Jones of Yukon, Okla., Gina Matlock of Bethany, Okla., and Dana Cook and her husband Rev. Rich Cook of Clarksville, Tenn. He also has 5 grandsons: Drew Jones, Jackson Cook, Grant Cook, Harden Jones, and Keller Matlock; one brother and his wife, Dr. Roy and Rebecca Dorris of Bethany; and many loving nieces and nephews also survive him. Family Visitation is Friday, May 25 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home from 6:00 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
