Obituary

Halbert A. (Hal) Cauthron Jr., 78, died on June 18, 2023, in Bethany, OK. He was born on January 7, 1945 in Poteau, OK, the son of Halbert A. Cauthron, Sr. and Lois Morris Cauthron of Wister, OK. He was raised by his grandparents, Daniel and Lorena Morris. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He earned many degrees (he loved to learn) ending with his PhD. from Vanderbilt University. He worked at many of the Nazarene colleges and universities all over the world before settling at Southern Nazarene University as the Chair of the Theology and Ministry Department from which he retired in 2017. Hal taught for a combined 45 years and has had a lifelong influence on countless students and pastors. He had the privilege of hooding his daughter-in-law Holly at her Medical school graduation. Hal was an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and was on the board of Reaching Our City, a compassionate ministry serving the Northwest Oklahoma City community, for 18 years. He was a wise counsel for anyone who came to him. His desire to show grace and forgiveness was inspiring to all. He was a mentor to so many and was always there with a listening ear. He loved reading as evidenced by his many full bookshelves and he loved to learn. He enjoyed his weekly coffee with his group of friends and the diverse conversations they had. He loved his family and enjoyed Sunday dinners with his daughter and her family and especially enjoyed when his son and daughter-in-law could be in town. He and Nancy enjoyed dinners and tv shows with friends. The Oklahoma Sooners were his favorite football team and he enjoyed watching sports with his son-in-law, Chris. Hal was preceded in death by his grandson, Caleb. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Bethany, OK; daughter, Melissa Tribuzi and husband Chris and grandchildren Caden, Carson, and Madison of Yukon, OK; son, Everett and wife Holly of Wheatridge, CO; sisters, Amy Miller and husband Darrell of Sand Springs, OK and Cynthia Cauthron of Sapulpa, OK; brother, Daniel Cauthron and wife Jeanne of AK; and many nieces and nephews.
