Obituary

Gwynneth Louise Mallett Ledbetter was born in Mallettown, a community near Springfield, Arkansas on August 27th, 1926. She was the daughter of Joseph Columbus Mallett and Lona Elizabeth Salter Mallett of the same community, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the wife of Lester Monroe Ledbetter who also preceded her in death. She is survived by three children, Lynnette Ledbetter Wickersham and husband John, Leslie Ledbetter and wife Lori, and Kevin Gwynne Ledbetter Mailot and wife Kathryn. She is survived by six grandchildren, Alyssa Sanders-Harris and husband Kevin Harris, Kyle Sanders, Lindsey Ledbetter Kuhns and husband Nathaniel Kuhns, Lauren Ledbetter, Sarah A. Mailot, and Jacob G. Mailot. She has numerous nieces and nephews. She is step grandma to James, Heather, and Ron Wickersham. She is step great-grandma to Maddie, Emily, and Amy Wickersham. She is also great-grandma to Evelynn Gwynn Sanders-Harris who will be born this June. Gwynneth received her BA degree in education from Cal State at Los Angeles, her Master's degree from the University of Arkansas and media specialist degree also from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She began her teaching career in Springfield, Arkansas, followed by Hughes, Arkansas, and later taught in California when her husband was transferred to that area as a special agent with the F.B.I. Initially, while living in California, she taught in the West Covina School District. Later, she taught in the Bonita School in San Dimas, California. Gwynneth retired from teaching in 1995 and she and Lester returned to Fayetteville, Arkansas where he had been assigned in the 1970's. She was active in church and Sunday school most of her life and she participated in youth activities with children such as Bluebirds, Indian Guide, baton twirling and marching. Services will be Friday, April 8th, at 9:00AM at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Chapel in the Round, Bethany, OK. Gwynneth will be buried in the Mallettown Cemetery by the side of her husband with other family members.
