Obituary

Gwendolyn June Emrich, age 90, slipped away from this earth to be with Jesus on October 21, 2016. June was born in Riverton, KS on June 5th, 1926 to Otto Newman and Cecile Marion (Smith) Newman. Her family moved to Joplin, MO in 1930 and there she attended grade school and graduated from Joplin High School in 1944. June worked at JC Penny Company until 1947 when she left Joplin to attend Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, OK to pursue as she named it, her MRS degree. While attending college in Bethany, June worked as secretary to the Dean of Students. On March 30, 1956, June married the love of her life, Robert L Emrich, known as Bob, and finally obtained her MRS degree. June worked at Nazarene Headquarters in Kansas City while Bob attended Nazarene Seminary. Their first ministerial assignment was Kansas City Rescue Mission and together they pastored Nazarene churches in St Joseph, MO, Topeka, Ks, and Neosho, MO. In 1966, June returned to work at then Bethany Nazarene College as the Financial Aid Director. In 1970, June became the church secretary at Western Oaks Nazarene Church until 1973 when June began work as an administrative assistant for a management company until 1986. Bob and June also served as pastors of the Noble Church of the Nazarene from 1974 until 1982, and completed their pastoral ministry together at Wichita Westside Church of the Nazarene in 1986-1987. June returned to Bethany in 1987 and worked part-time for the next 21 years. June was preceded in death by her father and mother, Otto and Cecile Newman, her husband, Bob Emrich, her brother, Elwood Newman, and her sister, Eleanor McPheeters. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Lutz; her daughter, Becky Strong and husband James; her sons, J.R. Emrich and wife Susan and Paul Emrich; grandchildren, J.D. Strong and wife Heather, Bobby Strong, John Strong and wife Jace, Heather Strong, Suzanne Kannady and her husband Jason, Victoria Bell and her husband Jeff, Cassie Jilge and her husband Patrick, Kayla Emrich, Ethan Emrich and his wife Kassondra; great grandchildren, Kenzie Strong, Brier Strong, Onna Strong, Decklin Strong, Luke Kannady, Elin Kannady, Austin Kannady, Coby Emrich, Gabbie Bell, Sam Bell, Cael Kirkpatrick, Trinity Tracy, Bradon Jilge, Lilly Emrich, and Cattalina Emrich. Viewing will be Sunday from 11am-9pm with family present from 4pm-6pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Funeral service will held Monday, October 24th at 2 pm, at OKC First Church of the Nazarene, followed by a graveside service at Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery.
