Guadalupe H. "G.H." Flores, much loved by his family, passed into God's warm embrace on July 23, 2014. G.H., a beloved husband, father and grandfather, will be dearly missed. He leaves behind a legacy of affection and dedication to the family. G.H. was born November 16, 1927, the identical twin son of Panfillo and Soledad Flores. Guadalupe and Francisco (Frank) were the oldest of their four children. He grew up in Premont, Texas and graduated from Falfurrias High School in May of 1948. After high school, he joined the Air Force, serving as Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged from the service in 1952. Both he and Frank then moved to Oklahoma City and he began a long and satisfying career as a civilian employee of Tinker Field Air Force Base, Midwest City, OK, where he served on numerous boards and civic organizations in the community, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he returned back to country life with a new hobby in caring for several horses, along with devoting his time to family functions and time with the grandchildren. Both he and Frank were inseparable and often enjoyed playing pranks on confused friends, son-in-laws and shopkeepers. The brothers shared a special bond, discoursing over current topics and life's daily events over many cups of coffee and long smoke sessions. During a holiday visit home in 1956, he met his bride to be, Leonor Vasquez, a relative by marriage of his cousin. It must have been love at first sight because two short in person visits later and many letters, he proposed and they were married in June 1957. On June 22, they celebrated 57 years of committed, loving wedded life. G.H. is survived by his wife, Leonor; his daughter, Melissa (Curtis) of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Steve (Lisa) of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Julie (J.R.) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Ilua, his devoted daughter and care giver of 20 years, of Bethany; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Brandon), Mustang, OK, Ian, Merriam, Kansas, Jacob, Oklahoma City, OK, Olivia, Manhattan, Kansas, Kristina, Lenexa, Kansas, Caroline, Oklahoma City, OK; three precious great-grandchildren, Emma, Quinn and coming in March 2015, another great-granddaughter or great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Frank, Eusebia and Alfredo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 10:00am at the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel. The wake will be held at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home on Friday, July 25 at 7:00pm.
