Obituary

Grace Glendola Holman went to be with Jesus on Monday, April 11, 2011, at the age of 94. She was born July 22, 1916, in Parkland, Oklahoma, to Fourest Raymond and Carrie Odessa (Herrmann) Jacob. Fourest and Carrie Odessa had nine children together, to which Grace was the fifth. Graces mother, Carrie Odessa passed away when she was only nine years old. Her father, Fourest remarried and went on to have 12 more children, so Grace ended up being one of 21 children. On April 27, 1937, Grace married John Louis (J.L.) Holman. To this union, they had their daughter, Linda (Holman) Myers and their son, Bruce Holman. They also raised Graces youngest sister, Rita (Jacob) Price, from the age of 18 months, as their own daughter. Grace loved church and was a faithful member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. Her life was devoted to loving and caring for others. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Holman; daughter, Linda Myers; and son, Bruce Holman. Survivors include; daughter, Rita Price; son-in-law, Darrell Myers; daughter-in-law, April Holman; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. It doesnt seem possible to sum up in a few short words, the life of this beautiful woman. Grace loved the Lord above all else and it showed in everything she did. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Graces light shone brightly and anyone blessed enough to have known her, knew that she patterned her life and actions after Christ. She wanted nothing more than for everyone to make it to heaven and if God could use her in that process, she was more than willing to do whatever He required. Her works were many and always with a quiet and gentle spirit. Grace loved children, especially babies and was always willing to go and help when a new baby was born. One of the things she liked to do when her grandchildren or great grandchildren would come to stay with her, was to get out the big bible, sit on the sofa and read together. She always looked for an opportunity to plant seeds in the lives of those around her. A story that comes to mind is of a time when she was helping one of her great grandsons toast a piece of bread. He was only about three years old and while they were toasting the bread, she was explaining to him about how Jesus is the bread of life. Of course, he didnt fully understand because he was so little and his comment was yeah Granna, and we call it toast! Funny little story, but just an example of her planting seeds in their young hearts. She was a good cook and loved having family gatherings. Some of her familys most favorite times evolved around dinner, someones birthday, holidays or homemade ice cream. She had the best chocolate cake and homemade ice cream recipes that are still being passed down through the family. Grace was an excellent seamstress, and loved to sew everything from curtains for her home to clothing for her family and many others. She was a perfectionist, so sometimes it would take her longer to finish a sewing project. Because of this, it was not uncommon for a family member to receive a gift of unfinished clothing. The pattern was always enclosed, so they could see a picture of what their garment was going to look like, when it was finished. She always wanted to give her best, and they loved getting something sown by her. She found enjoyment, in being outdoors, tending to her garden and yard. Many hours were spent working on all that needed to be done. Staying busy and not being idle was important to her. The family can still picture her adorned in her yellow galoshes, long sleeve blouse and big straw hat. Graces name fit her perfectly because she showed such grace in everything she did. Even though her last thirteen years of life were ones she would not have chosen, she would have been willing to live in whatever manner the Lord saw fit. Her family loved her dearly and counted it a privilege to care for her, just as she cared for them. She will be missed by many, but how blessed we have all been to have witnessed such a beautiful life.
