Obituary

Glorene Faye (Watt) Brown was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 25, 1931 and departed this life on October 29, 2013 in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was the only child of Clyde W. Watt and Nina (Chase) Watt. Glorene graduated from Wichita North High School in the spring of 1948 and enrolled in Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) that fall. While in college, she met Lecil Brown; they married on August 12, 1951 and graduated together in May 1952. For the next eight years, they lived in Wichita, Kansas where their four children were born. After the family moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1960, Glorene was an active member of South Florida Heights Nazarene Church where she was involved in the church mission work. She began teaching school when her youngest child was in kindergarten and spent the next 14 years teaching at Southwest Jr. High School. A home economics major in college, she was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for her family and friends. The family enjoyed trips to the Florida beaches and the Smoky Mountains. Lecil and Glorene returned to Bethany, OK in 1978. Glorene enjoyed teaching at Bethany High School from 1979 to her retirement in 1993. She was well loved by her students and fellow faculty members. She spent countless happy hours in genealogy research and was excited to be inducted as a member of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2002. Glorene is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Lecil, and four children: Dr. Deborah Brown of Oklahoma City; Rhonda Brown of Bethany; Tim Brown and wife Darlene of Bethany; and Edward Brown and wife Kathy of Yukon, OK. Glorene was a proud grandmother to four grandsons: Justin Brown and wife Lauren of Yukon, OK; Taylor Brown and wife Caleigh of Yukon, OK; Lee Brown and wife Bethany of Yukon, OK; and Alan Brown of Oklahoma City. Sadly, Alzheimer's robbed her of getting to enjoy her three great-grandchildren, Clint, Luke and Griffin. Glorene loved God and her family. Her greatest joy was in serving others. She will be greatly missed but remembered with love by all of her family. We want to thank the staff at Legend on Council and the Valir Hospice nurses for their kindness and care. Viewing will be Thursday, October 31 at Mercer-Adams; family will receive visitors at the funeral home that evening from 7-8 p.m. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene, with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
