Obituary

Glenn A. Rollins (picture 1944 Nice, France) was his own man from an early age, moving away from the family farm at thirteen, marrying his childhood sweetheart and joining the army at 17. As a member of the 45th Thunderbird Division, Glenn took part in the North Africa campaign; the invasion of Italy; the capture of Rome on the same day as D-day; the Battle of the Bulge; and the Allied Forces triumphant entry into France. Those early experiences would define his life for the next seventy years including his timing; sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Glenn loved to tell the story of his chance meeting and subsequent dinner with Elvis Presley and his entourage during business travel in his favorite professional position, a sales representative for 20 years for Whitmans Chocolate; yet he had to be coaxed to tell the story of turning down then client Sam Walton when asked to contribute $5,000 for his start-up retail chain. We are sure Glenns mother, although in heaven, was especially proud in 2001 when he received his high school diploma 60 years after attending Marlow High School; and at the age of 80 when he experienced his first Billy Graham revival 20 years after her original request. Son to Clarence Washington Rollins and Thelma Evans-Rollins; Father to Carol Ann, Ralph and Nancy; Brother to Jane Ellen Armstrong, Evelyn Steele, Joan Jeffords, and John Paul Rollins; and Grandfather. Preceded in death by many, including his parents, one sister, two daughters, a Grandson Spencer Glenn Rollins, most of his friends and army brothers; Glenn at age 87 ended his earthly journey. We are grateful for Lenora Rollins, the mother of Glenns children, who cared for him for the last few years. Also, special thanks to Sheryl Evans and her family who consistently took the time to visit. A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, August 25, at Marlow Cemetery. Ralph and Amy Rollins invite friends and family for a lunch at 12:30 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following at The Grande Hall at Castle Falls, 820 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 405-942-6133.
