Obituary

Glen Ray Scales, of Forest Park, OK, passed away around 3:00am on October 4th, 2015 at Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born the last of five children in Canyon, Texas, son of Benjamin Franklin Scales (Frank) and Mary Ethel (Stockton) Scales (Ethel). Glen is survived by wife, Dea Kay (Burkhart) Scales; a son, Theron Randall (Randy) Scales and wife Barbara Ternes-Scales, and seven step-grandchildren: Ivy, Shane, Chris, Sarann, Levi, Thomas, and Ethan; a son, Brent Duane Scales and wife Tammy, and three grandchildren: Kaylee, Caleb and Joshua Scales. He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Scales of Shady Nook, OK; a sister, Eula Mae Stipe-Neuenschwander of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Barbara Scales of Wichita Falls, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews. Glen grew up in McLean, TX, graduated from McLean High School in 1958, and soon began working for Scales Construction Company in Wichita Falls, TX, a concrete business started by his two older brothers, Wayne and Benny Scales. In 1960, Glen enrolled at Bethany Nazarene College - now Southern Nazarene University. It was there that he gave his heart to the Lord and also met Dea Burkhart, whom he married on December 26, 1961. While at BNC, Glen worked on the yard crew and also worked as a carpenter, building a great deal of the college chapel on campus. Soon after arriving at Bethany, Glen and Dea and other college students began attending Will Rogers Field Church of the Nazarene, pastored by Rev. Buddy and Sue Prentice, which was their first church to pastor. That church was sold and the congregation began attending Grand Blvd. Church of the Nazarene. Glen was very instrumental in building a new church building for them, and the church name became Woodson Park Church of the Nazarene. In the late 60's Glen went to work for IBM, installing, repairing and maintaining mainframe computers. In 1986 Glen started his own mainframe computer maintenance company, DataRay Systems, now DataRay, Inc. He then initiated the development of printing interface software that DataRay still provides to improve patient safety in hospitals and clinics across the nation. Their son, Brent, is now operating the company, which will celebrate its 30th year in March 2016. During his years with DataRay, Inc., Glen served several years as a trustee on the town board of Forest Park and served 6 years as the town's mayor. Glen enjoyed construction work and working with electronics. He used his talents in these areas to help out at the Nazarene church where he attended faithfully. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. The funeral service for Glen will be at 2pm this Saturday, October 10th, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, in the Chapel in the Round, 6789 NW 39th Expy, Bethany, OK 73008. There will also be a viewing this Friday, October 9th, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N Asbury Ave, Bethany, OK 73008, from 8am to 9pm, with family present from 6pm to 8pm.
