Gladys Alto Gillespie was born February 6, 1920 in Lamesa, Texas, and died January 10, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Gladys was the daughter of Joseph and Frankie Lisenbee. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 64 years, Lewis Alec Gillespie. Gladys had four brothers and three sisters, who preceded her in death. Gladys was the loving mother of a beautiful daughter, Glenda Carolyn Booker and husband Mike, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by three grandchildren: Kelly Thomas and husband Steve, Allyson Graves and husband Stuart, and Brent Booker and wife Pamela. Additionally, Gladys is survived by eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and her close friend Sam Lackey. Together, Gladys and Lewis enjoyed serving the local community. For many years they owned and operated Gillespies Grocery Store, and established long-lasting roots in Artesia. Their spirit of service carried well into retirement years, as they eagerly served the community as active Meals-on-Wheels volunteers. Gladys and Lewis traveled frequently with the Good Sams Club of Artesia, where they made friends of a lifetime. In 2013, Gladys followed the Lord in believers baptism, at Westside Church of Christ, where she worshiped faithfully. Services to remember and honor Gladys will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, at Westside Church of Christ, 2002 West Grand Avenue, Artesia, New Mexico. The Reverend Stuart Graves of First Baptist Church, Longville, Louisiana will officiate.
