Obituary

Ginger Ann Houchin Roscher was born December 7, 1933 on a farm near Sinton, Texas and left this world to enter her heavenly home on January 7, 2021 in Edmond, OK. Ginger grew up in South Texas and Arkansas. She graduated in 1953 from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. Ginger married Elden Roscher in 1953. They owned and operated Mt. Vernons Food Town on South Staples, Corpus Christi in the 1960s. In 1968, the family moved to Oklahoma City, OK to start Eldens new career as President and C.E.O. of the Oklahoma Retail Grocers Association. She was actively involved in his success working behind the scenes at numerous events. Gingers career included working for multiple retailers in Corpus Christi including managing the S & H Green Stamp Store at Six Points. She retired from Oklahoma Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 17 years of service. She spent the next chapter of her life researching genealogy. Her research and presentation of the Roscher Family History won first place in the Oklahoma State Fair in 1981. She recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served in numerous clubs and organizations over the years and was a Founding Trustee for the Donna Nigh Foundation, 101 Ranch Club Member, DECA Clubs of America, OK Genealogical Society, The Garden Club of Corpus Christi, TX and the Womens Auxiliary for the Retail Grocers Association both in Texas and Oklahoma. She was High School letterman in basketball, in Corpus Christi. She was also a lifetime member of the Allied Food Club and National Genealogical Society. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband Eldon of 43 years; parents, Zelner and Katie Bowen Houchin; sister, Georgia Ashby; and brother, Delano Houchin. Ginger is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Roscher Hinkle and husband Gary of Edmond, OK; son, Gary Roscher and wife Catherine of Carrollton, TX; 4 grandchildren, Philip Long, Jr. and Tyler of Frisco, TX, Pastor Terry Long and wife Joyce of Hamptonville, NC, Taylor Weeks and husband Dustin of McKinney, TX, Torrie Hally and husband Paul of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Pierce Long, Millie, Angela Kathryn, Skyler and Tucker Long, and Norah and Lucy Weeks. She is also survived by brothers, Doug Houchin and wife Helen of Edmond, OK, and Zelner Houchin and wife Terry of Corpus Christi, TX; sister, Amy Kerr of Searcy, AR; brother-in-law, Jim Ashby of Eufaula, OK; along with many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made in remembrance of Ginger Roscher to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN. A private family gathering will be held to share special memories of Gingers life. .
