Obituary

Gertrude Trudy Arnegard, 87, died April 7, 2011. She was born August 8, 1923 southeast of Oklahoma City to Herman and Bertha Kortemeier. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernest and Elvion, and her husbands, Paul Glasow and Howard Arnegard. A lifetime Lutheran, she and Paul helped establish the first African American Lutheran church in Oklahoma City - Redeemer Lutheran - in the early 1950's. She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, was very active in Sunday School, Bible classes, Mobile Meals, and Membership Board. She retired from Sears after 27 years. She was a volunteer for Christmas Connection, a member of the Women's Auxiliary of The Salvation Army and volunteered for the Department of Tourism. She and Howard traveled, participated in antique and art shows, as well as estate liquidations. They loved to dance! She is survived by her daughter, two granddaughters, one "grandson", one step-daughter and one step-son. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church-LWML. Services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church on Monday, April 11, at 10:00am with interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
