Geraldine "Gerry" Wanda Melton, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, peacefully passed into the arms of her Savior on Monday, September 16, 2024. She was given 100 beautiful years of life lived to the fullest.

Gerry was born in Milburn, Oklahoma on August 21, 1924 to Clyde Carter and Cletus Porter Carter. Gerry spent her grade school and high school years in Ponca City. She trusted Jesus as her Savior in June, 1934 and was baptized into the fellowship of the Church of God. She graduated in 1943 from Ponca High. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma, Gerry married her true love, Mario Melton, on August 14, 1947.

Mario took a job with IBM and they settled in Oklahoma City. They joined Olivet Baptist Church in 1951 where Gerry remained a beloved member until her death. Gerry faithfully served at Olivet as Sunday School teacher, choir member, Melodears, leadership in Keenagers, WMU officer, training union for youth and single adult leader.

In 1974, Gerry earned her Master's in Education from Central State University. She enjoyed substitute teaching until retirement.

In retirement, Mario and Gerry toured the USA in their 31-foot travel trailer. This began her lifelong collection of mugs. Mario and Gerry shared 55 happy years before his passing in 2002.

Gerry loved to read, travel, sing, have fun and eat chocolate, lots of chocolate! One of the highlights of her later years was singing with the Church Women of Oklahoma. She was a people person and each day was an adventure. The Lord took care of her in so many ways. She will be dearly missed.

Gerry is survived by her daughter, Janice (Gary); and son, Glen; grandchildren, Valerie (Nick) and Andy; and great-grandchildren, Lilah, Kambree and Piper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario, and mother, Cletus.

Viewing at Mercer Adams Funeral Service in Bethany (3925 N. Asbury) will be 11am-8pm with family present from 2-4pm on Sunday, September 22.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Olivet Baptist Church (1201 NW 10th Street) with interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Ponca City, OK.
