Gerald Dee
Smith
Apr 1, 1944 — Feb 3, 2026
Gerald Dee Smith, 81, was born on April 1, 1944 in Oklahoma to his loving mother and father; Clarence Edward and Viola Smith. Gerald's birth was truly the best and probably most shocking April fools' trick ever. His parents didn't expect twins, but got gifted with both Gerald and Phyliss unexpectedly.
Gerald has had many hobbies throughout his long life, some of which included coin collecting, match box car sets, and watching movies with his family, particularly old westerns. Recently his favorite movie has been the remake of "Twisters." He insisted that he called his local Wally World nearly every day for a month until it came out on DVD!
Gerald was very lucky to have met the love of his life, Barbara Sue Smith, whom he married on December 20,1985. Uncle Gerald and Aunt Barbara loved each other deeply but loved others more. They constantly spent time with friends and family. Going to their niece's house down the street every Friday for family pizza night, teaching his nieces how to stick their tongues out and blow raspberries! Later in life Gerald prioritized spending time with Barb and visiting her daily in the nursing home where she lived. Even during Covid, Gerald would sit outside her window and chat with her every day. In his last years of life Gerald lived at his mother and sister-in-law's home where he watched daily shows with his good friend and mother-in-law, Nan Costello.
Uncle Gerald was a true joker and always laughed at the little things in life. He leaves behind a family who keeps a reminder to do the same; mother-in-law, Nannie Costello; sister-in-law, Diana Weekley; nieces, Lilia Valerio-Weekley, Solana Valerio-Weekley, Niaomi Valerio-Weekley, Peggy Ilene and husband Sidney Davis, Tamara Brown, and Anne Vaughn; nephews, David Lee and wife Esli Vaughn, Jerry Lee and wife Kimberly, great nephew; Michael Roy Moore and wife Jennifer, and Jean Moore.
Other nieces and nephews: Edward Jr. and Jennifer and Sherri Smith, Brenda Baker, William Bruce Smith, Vana and David Karstetter, Regina Jolene Smith, Russell Lance Sanders, Timothy Sanders, and Robert Lummus, Nathan Lummus, and Jonathan Weekley.
Uncle Gerald was welcomed into Heaven by his wife Barbara Sue Smith. His parents, Clarence Edward and Viola Smith. Siblings; Norma Jean Goggin, Edward Gail Smith, Mary Lou Goggin, and closest of all his beloved twin sister and friend Phyliss Lee Vaughn. Nieces and great niece Patsy Gregory, Sammy Owen, and Jackie Richardson. Lastly, his brother-in-law Robert Weekley.
We know that Gerald and his loved ones are now celebrating his life in God's kingdom.
